WarEra's v0.27 update reworks the economy around employees. Hiring, training and working your own companies now all draw on the same pool: energy. The update is supposed to add strategic depth, but it turns energy into a bottleneck that forces you to pick one thing and neglect the rest.
One pool, many demands
Energy used to answer one question: can I work today? Under v0.27 it answers at least four:
Hiring: Hiring costs 10 energy, and a new set of candidates costs 10 energy the first time, then doubles each time.
Training: Training is available once a day per employee for 10 energy.
Self-production: You can still work your own companies yourself, for 10 energy.
Events and battles: Other activities in the game also draw on the same reserve, adding to the competition.
Taken one at a time, each cost looks small. Together they add up fast. A player with several employees has to train each one daily to keep them improving, and every training session is energy not spent producing. Rerolling candidates costs more each time, so hunting for a good hire gets expensive quickly.
The prioritization problem
A good economy forces trade-offs, but these trade-offs have no clear answer. Suppose you have 100 energy:
- Spend it on self-production and you earn now, but your employees stagnate.
- Spend it on training and your workforce improves, but your own output drops.
- Spend it on hiring and you grow capacity, but each reroll costs double the last.
The update also makes employees more valuable, so the pressure rises on every side. Each hour an employee makes Production ÷ 4, and after hiring, neither side can end the contract for 24 hours. A bad hire is now a commitment, and a rerolled search is a sunk cost. Every energy point spent on a poor decision hurts more because there's so little slack to recover it.
"But energy went up"
The notes do raise the energy pool. Energy is now 100 plus 10 per level, up from 30. Production when working yourself rises to 30 plus 3 per level, up from 10.
The counterargument is that demand has grown faster than supply. Before, energy mostly meant working. Now the same pool must cover working, hiring, rerolling and training, so a bigger pool is spread across many more uses. The mismatch is worst for newer players, who have the fewest levels, the smallest pool and the most to build.
What would help
If the developers want energy to stay a meaningful constraint without feeling punishing, there are a few options:
1. Flatten reroll costs - Doubling with each reroll punishes the search for a good hire. A cap or a daily reset would soften it.
2. Offer an energy-free path - for at least one core activity, such as basic training at a reduced rate.
3. Revisit regeneration - in light of the new demands. Faster regeneration, or a larger buffer for low-level players, would ease the squeeze.
4. Communicate the intended trade-off - If players are meant to choose between growth and income, the game should make that choice readable rather than leaving it to trial and error.
Verdict
v0.27 makes WarEra's economy more interesting by giving employees real weight. But it asks one resource to do too much. Until energy supply and demand are rebalanced, the real strategy is rationing energy, and the fun of choosing is lost.
