WarEra+ v1.2 - The game forgets. WarEra+ doesn't
It's me again, /user/69d2ed249f38d300d59a2af1. A month since v1.1, and this one was a long round: while i was governing https://app.warera.io/country/6813b6d446e731854c7ac7a2 as a president i keep working on https://wareraplus.vercel.app/, more than 98 changes, a few new sections, quite a few rebuilt ones, and a list of fixed bugs you'll find at the bottom.
Thanks again to everyone who wrote to me. As before, a good chunk of what follows came out of your messages: Economy in one place, the nation panel put back in order, the war/eco bar for each nation in an alliance, price candles you can actually explore. If you recognise one of those sentences, it's because you wrote it.
I only noticed the common thread halfway through. WarEra is very good at telling you how the world is right now: what iron costs, who is at war with whom, who is president. It almost never tells you how it was yesterday. Last month's price is gone, so are July's wars, and who ran your country in May is up to your memory.
v1.2 is almost entirely about that: remembering what the game forgets, and putting it in front of you.

Until now the time machine only showed who owned which region. That was a choice: nothing else had ever been saved over time, and showing you today's wars under a July date would have been worse than showing nothing.
For several things that's no longer true. Stop the slider on any day, click a nation, and read who it was at war with that day, who it had a defensive pact with, who its sworn enemy was, which battles were open and who was president.
And my favourite part: clicking a nation no longer opens a popup that disappears the moment the slider moves. You select it. A card follows it day after day (regions, treasury, wars, pacts, battles) and the map recolours itself around its diplomacy: wars in dark red, the sworn enemy in bright red, pacts in purple, allies in blue. Press play and watch the diplomacy change: pacts being signed, wars starting and ending, the sworn enemy switching.
There are also alliances, from the game's launch to today. First the bilateral agreements, then today's blocs, each with its members on that day. Blocs sometimes change name, and the time machine tells you what they were called back then: P.A.S.T.A., for one, has been Balkan Bloc, then Reservoir Dogs, then The Olive Union.
Population, development and wealth of regions stay out for the usual reason: nobody ever saved them, and making them up isn't an option.

Not just where you were. Also against whom.
How does the time machine know about April's wars? Not on its own.
The author of another community tool /user/69bce55310209cb86c0bf830 handed me their archive, which had been watching the game since April. It held exactly what WarEra doesn't keep: every resource's price day by day, transfers between national treasuries, diplomacy and open battles day by day, players' wealth, and every wage paid over 51 days. I imported all of it, and from there WarEra+ carries on by itself.
There's a less cheerful follow-up: on 19 September the author announced they're shutting their database down. Since that day the copy on WarEra+ is the only one left. So these archives are no longer deleted after a set number of days, they're all kept, and there's a weekly backup.
Sincere thanks to whoever kept that archive running for five months, and then chose to hand it over instead of just switching it off.
A day nobody watched is lost forever. Luckily, someone was watching these.
The Insights menu had the Industrial Optimizer and Production Yields as two separate entries, and prices, the first question of all, had no home. Now they're three tabs of a single entry, Economy, in the order you ask the questions: what are things worth, what is worth producing, how do I set up my company.
The new tab is Prices: every resource, best bid and best ask, change over 24 hours, 7 and 30 days. Click a resource and a candlestick chart opens, going back to 9 April. And you can explore it: hover to read that day's open, high, low and close, click to pin a candle, use the arrow keys to move from day to day. The changes finally say compared to what, too: not a bare "+5.2%" anymore, but "7d +5.2% since 17 Sep".
Yields and the Optimizer are the ones you know, credit to /user/69cc14d4efc3f3f4291e93a9 at the top included. Switching tabs doesn't close the one you leave: go back to Yields and your wage, days and open row are exactly where you left them.

Three questions, one place.
Political View had a limit: it told you the current election very well, and almost nothing about the ones before. Now it has two new views.
History: the nation's presidents since launch, turnout election by election, how many members the parties had, who switched party, and the governments that came one after another. Presidents and turnout are all there, from day one. Party members, switches and governments are collected from now on, and the view tells you since when.
World: the election calendar of every nation (who is voting now, who has candidacies open) and a comparison between nations: how many people vote, how fragmented the parliament is, how long a president lasts. And on the map there's a new view, Elections: red where people are voting, gold where candidacies are open.
Three smaller things you'll use:
the player card in the parliament simply wasn't visible: it was there, but it ended up behind the window. Now it opens and tells you military unit, war/eco style, level, damage and wealth;
every party has a "Who's in the party" section: how many play for war and how many for the economy, which units they're in, what level they are;
the seat simulator gives you a range instead of a single number, for example "6 to 9 seats" instead of "7". The range is tuned on how much that nation has swung in past elections: I tested it on real elections in 25 nations, and the result lands inside it almost nine times out of ten.

Who governs now, and who came before.
The Map views menu has a new entry, Travel, for the question you ask every time you want to move: how far is it from here?
Click a region and every other one is coloured by how many borders you have to cross to get there: green to red as long as one full stamina bar is enough (10 regions), purple beyond that, where every extra region costs 2 barrels of oil. Hover a destination and you see the route drawn on the map and, at the bottom, how much stamina you have left and how many barrels you need.
The side panel has the numbers for your starting point: how many regions a full bar reaches, which one is the farthest, and how much of the world is within reach. That last one is also the probability that a wooden case spawning at random is reachable.
And for exactly those cases there's the case route: mark your home region and the regions where cases spawned (up to 5), and the view works out the best order to collect them all, spending the free trip home where it saves the most. Your home is remembered for next time.

How far, how much, and in what order.
Every nation's page (Nation statistics) has damage hour by hour and, on the same chart, the line of players on a pill in that hour. They're together on purpose: the interesting question is whether the damage peak lands where the pill peak lands. A nation that all pills at nine in the evening and hits at nine in the evening is playing coordinated. Below it there's the damage curve over the last 14 days. Hourly damage is collected from the moment WarEra+ started watching: a gap stays a gap, never a zero.
Also on the nation page there's Labour and taxes: how much the citizens earned over 51 days of wages, who paid them, for producing what, and how much they earned working abroad. For /country/6813b6d446e731854c7ac7a2 it's 46%, almost half. And a trap, put in two separate tiles on purpose: taxes withheld from your citizens are not your state's revenue, they go into the treasury of the nation where the company operates. This section is fixed to those 51 days, and says so at the top.
In the 1 vs 2, for both nations and alliances, you can finally tell who's winning. Every row puts the leader in bold with its margin (+34%, ×2.3), the loser fades out, and at the top there's a scoreboard: who's ahead in how many measures, out of how many. The alliances' Faction 1 vs 2 also compares a lot more: today's damage, how many war and economy players, damage and wealth per citizen, regions gained, bounties.
And Alliance statistics now speaks nine languages. It was all in English: now it speaks yours, like the rest of the tool.

Not just how hard a nation hits. When, and with what.
At the top of a battle's detail there are the funders: the nations that sent money into the treasuries of the two sides while the battle was open, with when and how much. They're at the top on purpose: you read the damage rankings differently once you know six nations were behind one of the sides. Where the archive doesn't reach, the table says "out of range", not "nobody funded it": those are two different things.
The per-nation table has two new columns. Contracts collected: mercenary contract money, credited to the nation of the unit that won them. And paid per 1k: how much was paid, bounty plus contracts, for every thousand damage, compared to the average of its side. You see at a glance who fought for free and who charged a lot.
Mercenary units in the contracts finally have their name and logo instead of "unknown unit", and a click opens their page.

The players do the damage. Someone else pays for the war.
Your request, and you were right: the panel that opens when you click a nation started with the parliament chart, which changes twice a month. Now at the top there's a "watch" block:
whether the nation is a proxy of someone else;
the war / eco bar of its players, with how much it moved in the last 24 hours;
who arrived and who left in the last seven days.
The parliament is still there, just lower down.

And in an alliance's panel, under each nation, there's now its own war/eco bar. Take ATLAS, the biggest bloc on the map with twenty-one nations: when I wrote this, /country/6813b6d546e731854c7ac865was 41% war and 44% economy, while /country/6813b6d446e731854c7ac7ba , the member with the most players, just 14% war and 72% economy. One side of the alliance does the fighting, the other keeps the economy going, and you see it without opening twenty-one panels.
Explore Military Units has a new column: how many people each unit brought into the game, adding up its members' referrals. The tooltip also tells you how many the top member brought, because it's almost always one person: in one measured case, 519 for the unit and 515 from the same player.
What happened today first, the rest after.

I went through the whole tool on a phone-sized screen, section by section, and there was a lot to fix. Tables showed the least useful columns and hid the ones that mattered off to the right. The candlestick chart squeezed its axes until they were unreadable. In alliances the second column ended up entirely off screen, and unit names showed four letters.
Now Prices and Yields keep the columns that count in view, the battle archive becomes a list of cards, names stay pinned on the left when a table scrolls sideways, and buttons and controls are finger-sized. The time machine and the nation panel work on a phone too, without pieces overlapping.

There's a new menu entry, Reserved area. For now most of you will find it closed, and I can't tell you much about what's inside.
CLASSIFIED · clearance level: ████████
Contents: ███████ █████████ for those who ███████ and those who ████████. ██ ████ ███████ ██████████, ███████ █ ███████ ████ ████, ████████ ███ ██████ █ ████ ██████ ███████.
Access: Discord sign-in + linked in-game character. Roles read from the game, not handed out by hand.
Cleared: nations of the P.A.S.T.A. alliance. ██████████ ███ ████████.
What I can say: it's the first part of WarEra+ that doesn't just read, so it asks who you are. It follows the alliance by itself: join P.A.S.T.A. and you're in here too, leave and you're out.
The rest of WarEra+ doesn't change one bit, and nobody needs to sign in to use the map.
An extra room, not a door in front of the entrance. With the door shut, for now.

The map with no battles. When the service WarEra+ uses for battles hit its daily request cap, the list came back empty and everyone's map was left without markers. Now an empty answer no longer wipes the last good list, and battles go through a route that doesn't have that cap.
Less work in a hidden tab. Battle markers and tickers no longer keep updating while you're looking at another browser tab, and the map opens faster.
Egypt with zero votes. At the Egyptian presidential election on 1 September Political showed every candidate at zero, and the congress said "no elected candidates": the results had been read a few seconds after closing, before the game wrote them, and stayed that way. Now an election is closed when the game says so, and the wrong results fixed themselves. The loading bar that got stuck when opening a congress is gone too.
The Senate under the bar. The Senate view started under the top menu, and the title, senator count and filters were covered.
"[object Object]" in the time machine. For a few days defensive pacts showed up like that in the popup. Fixed, and the days already saved wrong repaired themselves.
Wrong "back then it was called". The time machine said that P.A.S.T.A., today, "back then was called The Olive Union". It wasn't true, and it doesn't say it anymore.
Allies and sworn enemies miscounted in Alliance statistics and in the nations' 1 vs 2. "Allies" read a game field frozen on 10 June, and "Sworn enemies" a field that doesn't exist, so it was always zero. Now they count today's defensive pacts and sworn enemies.
Citizen moves stuck. On 20 September Syria really lost almost half of its citizens. The check against incomplete data took it for an error and froze moves for every nation for four days. Now a drop that repeats identically for three hours in a row is taken as real.
After an update you're back where you were. When a new version ships, WarEra+ reloads the page by itself and reopens the section you were on. For Battles, the Guide and the Reserved area this didn't happen, and you found yourself back on the map.
The election ticker asked for the elections of all 180 nations on every round, from every browser. Now it only receives the open ones: about 1 KB instead of 650.
Truncated names. Unit names in battles ("Chasseurs Ardenn...") now wrap instead of being cut.
Charts read under the mouse. Instead of the browser's slow tooltip there's a box that follows the pointer, and the column it's describing is highlighted.
As always, everything is on https://wareraplus.vercel.app/ , free and with no login (reserved area aside). If something doesn't add up, or there's a question you'd like the tool to answer, write to me: half of this article came from there.
