Leman Russ - The Wolf King

1.Raised by Wolves
He landed on the death world of Fenris, a brutal planet of ice, oceans, and deadly predators. He was adopted by a Fenrisian she-wolf named Lupa and raised alongside his wolf-brothers, Freki and Geri. He learned to hunt, survive, and run with the pack, embodying the raw, feral nature of the planet. Discovered by King Thengir of the Russ clan, the feral boy was taken in for his immense potential. Leman Russ grew at a staggering rate, quickly mastered human speech, and eventually succeeded Thengir as the undisputed High King of Fenris.

2.The Three Challenges
The Emperor arrived on Fenris clothed in a simple cloak to test His son. Russ, arrogant and protective of his domain, refused to instantly bow and instead challenged the stranger to three contests to prove his worth.
-An Eating Contest: Russ won by devouring three entire oxen.
-A Drinking Contest: Russ won by drinking the legendary, highly toxic Fenrisian mead until the Emperor couldn't keep up
-A Combat Challenge: Insulted by the Emperor calling him a "fat gourmand," Russ drew his sword. The Emperor dropped his disguise, drawing power from the Warp, and knocked Russ unconscious with a single, colossal punch from His power glove.

3.The Space Wolves
While other Legions were diplomats or builders, the Space Wolves were the Emperor's executioners. They were built for brutal, uncompromising warfare and were rumored to have been used to wipe out the two "forgotten" lost Primarchs.
The genetic template of Russ gives the Space Wolves heightened, canine-like senses, acute smell, and superhuman ferocity. However, it carries a curse: the Wulfen defect, which can transform a Space Marine into a literal feral werewolf-monster if they lose control.
Legion Motto: For Russ and the Allfather!

4.The Emperor's Executioner
Leman Russ cultivated the image of a wild barbarian, but beneath it lay a brilliant strategist and cunning leader. He possessed a rare anti-psychic ability known as the Howl of the Hearthworld, a terrifying roar capable of disrupting psychic powers and shattering the minds of psykers.
In battle, Russ wielded legendary weapons including Mjalnar, a fearsome chainsword crafted from kraken teeth Krakenbane, his frost blade, and the Spear of Russ, a gift from the Emperor that forced those it struck to confront the absolute truth of their existence.

5.The Horus Heresy
When the Heresy began, Russ was ordered to bring Magnus to Terra. The mission changed, leading to the infamous Burning of Prospero, where the Space Wolves devastated Magnus' home world.
Later, Russ realized Horus had manipulated events and attempted to personally assassinate him. During their duel, Russ wounded Horus with the Emperor's Spear, but hesitated to finish the killing blow. Horus survived, and the Heresy continued toward Terra.

6.The Grief and The Stab
When Russ and Lion El'Jonson finally reached Terra, they found the Siege over, the Emperor shattered, and Horus dead. Driven wild by grief and anger, the Lion confronted Russ, blaming him for being too slow to arrive. He drew the Lion Sword and demanded they finish the ancient duel they had started years ago on Dulan. Russ entirely deadened by grief and offering no defense, simply unarmored his chest and let the Lion strike. The Lion impaled Russ, but at the last second, realizing Russ was willing to die rather than fight his brother, the Lion deflected the lethal blow slightly. Russ fell into a coma for a short period but survived, and the two brothers ultimately bonded over their shared sorrow.

7.The Sudden Disappearance
For roughly a century after the Heresy, Russ continued to lead his sons, though he grew increasingly distant, stoic, and philosophical as his remaining brothers died or vanished one by one. During a massive feast celebrating the Emperor's Ascension, Russ suddenly froze, he received a profound, disturbing psychic vision. He took his innermost circle, his entire Varagyr Wolf Guard and vanished.
